The environmental impact of technology is something we take seriously at Cleo Communications. Over the past 30 years we have moved from hardware to software and made great strides in reducing our carbon footprint.

Access at Your Fingertips

Our software solutions are most commonly downloaded online – reducing the negative impact of freight, increased equipment, packaging and materials. Our policy towards packaging is that we have created smaller software packaging that is only sent upon request. All of our installation guides, user guides and support documentation are hosted online – readily accessible using a customer’s serial number to login. The impact of this effort alone, significantly reduces our paper consumption and allows customers to pull only the information needed, as opposed to supplying an abundance of paper that goes to waste, unused.

Whether we’re talking about customers or partners, most of our testing, training and support is done remotely, online – further reducing our carbon footprint and the need for additional equipment on our part. Following this process, we are able to work with partners and customers worldwide with little to no detrimental effect on the environment. Equipping each one of our global partners with a customized VLPortal (web portal) removes the need for us to supply and replace printed materials regularly. Partners can readily access all training, sales, marketing and support materials that they need online. Thereby, only printing the materials that are needed.

Even our software solutions, LexiCom and VLTrader have green components, Web GUI and VLPortal, that enable users to access the software remotely, removing the need to add even more hardware to their existing IT environment. Because our platform is so flexible, we can leverage existing technology when putting our solution in place.

 

The Ripple Effect

Not only does the development of our software have an environmentally friendly approach, so does the architecture. With high-availability configurations readily available for our flagship solution – VLTrader, we make sure that our customers can continue to manage their lean workflows with no interruption. Our solutions are automated and reduce manual processes, while operating from a centralized location with collaboration at the core. When we provide robust online solutions, our customers can run lean with confidence. That’s a ripple we like to create.

 

On-Site

We have one single Cleo footprint, based in Loves Park, Illinois. All of our departments are centralized in one location, facilitating collaboration in engineering development, sales, marketing and support. We are in an energy efficient building that is equipped with motion-sensor lighting, a combination of compact florescent and low voltage lighting, heating and cooling setbacks and is not water intensive. We maintain a safe and healthy working environment for our employees. Network multifunction devices remove the need for desktop printers and desktop faxing removes all of the hardware and supplies required for traditional faxing. Ink and toner cartridges are refillable and replaceable print components are handled through an exchange program. Recycling centers are placed next to every multifunction device and each office– ensuring employees don’t have to go far to do some good. When it is time to replace IT equipment, servers and computer equipment, we work closely with local recycling companies to ensure it does not become part of a landfill.
